Total applicant numbers are up - 558,898 in 2013 compared to 540,073 at the same point last year. The number of applicants from England, Scotland and Northern Ireland have increased although Wales saw a decrease of 2.1%.
The UCAS figures published today show that the biggest increase in total applications by age group has been 19-year olds - 10,894 more than in 2012.
Computer sciences had the highest increase in total applications (up by 12.3% at the same point last year). It seems social sciences, arts and languages are feeling the biggest decreases
